Research interest
I am a Professor in the Department of Plant Agriculture, University of Guelph, Canada. Since 1998, I have been leading a large and dynamic research program in soybean breeding and genetics at the University of Guelph. Beside developing soybean cultivars, my research focuses on seed composition (e.g., modified fatty acids, isoflavones, vitamin E, soyasaponins) for food and industrial uses, and exploration of genetic variation for yield and disease resistance traits using elite and exotic germplasm. In the past five years, I have become interested in genomics research in soybean to address questions such as the dynamics of genomic changes, selection signatures, genomic selection and genetic basis of important traits.

Together with my colleagues, I am involved in Activity 2, which is aimed at developing genomic selection tools to breed for increased yield.
I also co-lead Activity 4.3 together with Dr. Belzile, which involves the development of selection tools to facilitate the breeding of soybean cultivar with increased disease resistance, especially to Sclerotinia stem rot, or white mould.
